The spring button will only lock into an inner or outer hole but not both holes. When adjusting the legs, the buttons will alternate and snap into only one hole at a time either inside or outside. DISCLAIMERS: The bracket works with single or double hung windows between 24 and 38 inches wide (does not work in slider, crank out or casement windows). The bracket needs 10 inches of clearance below the window. The bracket requires a minimum wall thickness of 6 inches and maximum wall thickness of 12 inches. The dimension is taken from the inside lower window frame to the exterior sill or exterior surface.
Exactly what we needed. Our AC was too complicated to use the manufacturers instructions to install in the window. We had to take it out of the casing, screw the casing into the window, attach the brackets to the casing, slide the unit back into the casing, put it all back together, put the rim brackets on, it was a pain. I thought "someone else has had to have this problem," and "there has to be a solution out there already," did some research and came across this product.
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR EMAILS. The manufacturer will be contacting you to confirm the type and size of windows you have. I'd recommend putting that information in the product description. After three cancellations and a poor review from me, I ran across the buried emails in my inbox. After we connected Ernie was great, and even sent this out overnight for the regular shipping charge because of the misunderstanding. At first I was miffed, because I'd already read the requirements and had already measured the windows and such, but on second thought was pleased they'd go to so much trouble to ensure you have the correct type of windows. A lot of people don't read the details.
NOW FOR THE PRODUCT ITSELF:
This product is VERY STURDY & WELL MADE. EXTREMELY EASY TO PUT TOGETHER. SIMPLE TO ADJUST. Two arms rest against the inside of the window frame, the two "legs" rest against the outside wall and the weight of the unit holds everything sturdily in place. Is absolutely ideal if you have an upstairs window in a rental apartment and can't mar the window with screws and such. For our house, it's on the first floor, which I'd be hesitant to do if the unit wasn't so heavy. All in all, a WELL THOUGHT OUT PRODUCT. I RECOMMEND IT WHOLEHEARTEDLY - if you have the correct type and size of window.
